Rayan Cherki will undergo his medical at Manchester City on Monday as the club look to finalise his signing before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
City have agreed a deal with Lyon for Cherki worth in excess of €35m with all parties now looking to finalise the transfer in time for the Club World Cup.
The ‘mini-transfer’ window introduced ahead of the tournament will close on Tuesday, meaning all signings must be finalised before that deadline to be registered for the group stage.
Cherki will undergo his medical today ahead of signing a long-term contract at the Etihad. The 21-year-old arrives in England after helping France to a third-place finish in the UEFA Nations League.
He marked his senior debut for France with a stunning goal in the semi-final defeat to Spain last week.
The winger led Ligue 1 and the Europa League for assists last season, scoring 12 times and creating 19 more across all competitions for Lyon.
Cherki has been targeted as a creative replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, whose contract at the Etihad was not renewed. He is one of three signings expected to be finalised before the Club World Cup deadline, alongside AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.
The trio could debut when City face Moroccan side Wydad-AC in their opening fixture of the Club World Cup. Pep Guardiola’s side also face Al Ain and Juventus in the group stage of the tournament this summer.
