Manchester City star Nico O’Reilly has worked his way into the England set-up, and has claimed Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling is one of the best players to play for The Three Lions.

O’Reilly has made an impressive start to the season, and despite naturally being a midfielder, he seems to have nailed down a starting role at left back under Pep Guardiola.

In fact Chelsea made enquiries about O’Reilly in previous transfer windows, but it looks unlikely he’ll be leaving City anytime soon.

Nico O’Reilly praises Raheem Sterling

Sterling has had a decorated career, but since joining Chelsea from City in a £50m deal his career has been on a downward trajectory.

The 30-year-old had a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal last season, where he managed to score just one goal before returning to Chelsea.

Sterling had as many as five clubs interested in him over the summer, but a move away failed to materialise, and he’s been training away from the first team.

Despite that, O’Reilly was full of praise for Sterling, and revealed he used to do “crazy” things on the ball as he named him in his all time England XI.

“Right wing, I’m going to go with Sterling,” he told Manchester City’s YouTube channel.

“The stuff he did at City was crazy. Also for England, he’s so quick, technical.

“When I first trained with him, he helped me out a bit.”

Chelsea hoping to move Sterling on in January

It’s been nothing short of a disaster for Sterling at Chelsea, and despite having interest in the summer, his preference to remain in London made a move difficult.

Chelsea are reportedly working on trying to find a solution in January, and more than anything they want to get his reported wages in excess of £300,000 per week off their books.

It’s a shame how the past few years have been for Sterling, and it’s easy to forget he’s been on the best wingers in the Premier League, we just didn’t get to see it at Chelsea.
