Manchester City star’s entourage confirm talks with Real Madrid presidential candidate | OneFootball

Enrique Riquelme has adopted an aggressive approach towards the upcoming Real Madrid presidential elections in which he is standing as a candidate.

So far, he has openly come out to attack Florentino Perez’s presidency, the club’s structure, and even promise mega signings.

Manchester City’s Rodri, on that front, is one player he has openly spoken of very highly, raising speculations that he is Riquelme’s marquee signing.

Confirmation from the entourage

As conveyed by Tiempo de Juego in a recent update, Rodri’s entourage admit that the player did have a conversation with Riquelme a few days ago, as claimed by the presidential candidate.

In the said discussion, Riquelme conveyed his desire to be able to count on Rodri in the future as a potential signing, especially in the event of him winning.

The Spanish midfielder’s close circle, however, concurrently deny all rumours of a negotiation or agreement in place between the presidential candidate and Rodri, and there has thus been no advancement towards a transfer.

A critical World Cup

Real Madrid are actively exploring midfield options to sign in the summer, and Rodri is a name who even Florentino Perez rates highly.

The veteran, however, has fallen down Real Madrid’s priority list primarily owing to his age and recent serious injury, both of which have led the club to believe his value has fallen.

The upcoming FIFA World Cup, on that front, will be critical for Rodri if he is to push for a transfer this summer. He is focused on the event 100% and is also negotiating a renewal with Manchester City concurrently, although the positions are currently very distant.
