Manchester City are looking to extend Erling Braut Haaland’s contract after persuading manager Pep Guardiola to stay at the club for at least one more year.

Guardiola’s deal was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but he has agreed in principle to sign a new 12-month contract.

The Premier League giants now want Haaland to follow his manager’s lead and pen new terms despite having two-and-half years left on his current deal.

According to the Sun, City want to keep the Norwegian striker for at least five more years, and they are willing to offer an overall package of £100 million.

Haaland joined City 2022 after they activated his £51.2m release clause.

The 24-year-old hit the ground running at the Etihad Stadium, scoring 52 goals in his debut campaign to help his team win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Haaland bagged 38 goals in all competitions as City were crowned English champions for the fourth consecutive year last tern

He has also maintained his top standards this season, smashing 15 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions.

However, City are struggling at the moment after suffering defeats against Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, Sporting CP and Brighton & Hove Albion.

They must significantly improve their performances to win the Premier League this season, with Liverpool currently five points clear at the top.
