Manchester City are accelerating their pursuit of Enzo Fernández, with talks under way and the Argentine viewed as a midfield priority, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.
City plan to push negotiations in the coming days in the hope of reaching an agreement before the week ends.
They want a player to take command in an area that needs fresh leaders, and Fernández is among their preferred options. His distribution, personality and elite experience make him a compelling fit for the Etihad project.
The main obstacle is financial. Chelsea are unwilling to ease his departure and are holding out for around €140m, a sum that would rank among the most expensive transfers in football. They still see him as fundamental and are not reducing their stance for now.
City’s early proposals have been around €120m, but Chelsea’s position is forcing Guardiola’s side to explore ways to bridge the gap. Despite the distance, talks remain open and the next few days could prove decisive.
Should he arrive, Fernández would add authority, control and personality on major occasions, and could further raise the ceiling of a leading contender for all trophies.
