Manchester City will be looking to build on a run of improved results on Saturday when they host a struggling Burnley side at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s team have an extraordinary historical record in this fixture, having won their last 13 consecutive meetings with the Clarets.
While City have had an inconsistent start to their title defence, they will be strong favourites against a team with the worst defensive record in the league.
Erling Haaland is fit and available for Manchester City this weekend after recovering from a minor back problem. Mateo Kovačić is also nearing a comeback from a long-term injury, but remains a major doubt for the game. City’s absentee list still includes Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush, and Abdukodir Khusanov, who are all ruled out.
The visitors are boosted by the return of midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from suspension. Scott Parker is, however, still missing several key players through injury, including Connor Roberts, Jordan Beyer, and Zeki Amdouni. Goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka is expected to be busy.
Manchester City have endured their worst start to a season in over 15 years but appear to be finding their rhythm, now unbeaten in their last three league games. They have utterly dominated this fixture in recent years, winning their last 13 meetings with Burnley in all competitions and boasting a staggering aggregate score of 46-2 in that run.
The Clarets are in poor form, winless in their last three league matches and fresh from a disappointing home cup defeat to a League One side. Keeping things tight defensively will be a priority ahead of a trip to a ground where they have not won in the league since 1963.
Manchester City predicted XI: Donnarumma; Lewis, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Rodri; Bernardo, Reijnders, Foden, Doku; Haaland.
Burnley predicted XI: Dubravka; Walker, Laurent, Ekdal, Esteve, Hartman; Tchaouna, Cullen, Ugochukwu, Anthony; Foster.
The match will not be broadcast live in the UK due to the 3:00 pm Saturday blackout.
