Manchester City vs Leeds United: Latest City injury news and predicted City starting eleven

Article image:Manchester City vs Leeds United: Latest City injury news and predicted City starting eleven

Manchester City take on Leeds United today at the Etihad Stadium in what now looms as an important Premier League fixture for Pep Guardiola’s side. Back-to-back defeats to Newcastle United and Bayer Leverkusen have taken the gloss off what did seem to be a bright start to the season for City. You do sense that Pep Guardiola’s side needs to pick up three points today for their confidence, especially considering how City played against Bayer Leverkusen. Leeds United will be desperate to pick up a positive result of any description today given the position on the league table they currently find themselves in.

Here is the latest Manchester City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven ahead of today’s match.

Latest Manchester City injury news.

There has been no change to the injury situation at Manchester City. Mateo Kovacic and Rodri will miss today’s match. Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that Rodri is edging closer to his return to the pitch but today’s match comes too soon for the Spanish international to feature.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Pep Guardiola make wholesale changes to the starting eleven that began the defeat against Bayer Leverkusen. Manchester City’s fringe players didn’t perform and it appears that City’s best starting eleven will, and should, start today’s game.

Predicted City starting eleven.

Gianluigi Donnarumma: Manchester City missed Donnarumma’s leadership at the back against Bayer Leverkusen. The Italian international seems certain to start today.

Matheus Nunes: Nunes has firmly established himself as Manchester City’s first-choice right-back and will likely return to the starting lineup today.

Ruben Dias: Dias has to start today. He has been in strong form and he makes his teammates walk taller when he is on the pitch.

Josko Gvardiol: I can see Pep Guardiola going back to his preferred starting eleven today which means Gvardiol will start.

Nico O’Reilly: Given his importance to Manchester City’s play it seems to be a certainty that Nico O’Reilly will start at left-back.

Nico: I think that Nico will be the only player who started against Bayer Leverkusen who will start against Leeds.

Bernardo Silva: Manchester City need their captain to start and lead from the front. His presence was missed against Leverkusen and I expect Bernardo to start in midfield.

Phil Foden: Foden is a certain starter in midfield against Leeds in my opinion.

Rayan Cherki: Cherki is arguably one of of Manchester City’s key attacking weapons. I expect Leeds to sit deep defensively and Cherki’s ability to break open a game could be vital for his team.

Jeremy Doku: Doku has to start and it seems certain he’ll take up his position on the left wing.

Erling Haaland: Haaland will start and I expect him to be fired up to lead from the front.
