Manchester City vs Real Madrid: Latest City injury news and predicted City starting eleven

Article image:Manchester City vs Real Madrid: Latest City injury news and predicted City starting eleven

Manchester City take on Real Madrid tonight at the Bernabeu in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout play-off tie. Pep Guardiola’s side trail the current European champions 3-2 on aggregate after a late collapse in the first leg at the Etihad last week. But Manchester City enter tonight’s match with confidence after their 4-nil win over Newcastle last weekend. Pep Guardiola’s side will have to play with courage to overturn the deficit they are faced with at the Bernabeu. But they are capable of doing so if they are at their best tonight.

Here is the latest City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven ahead of tonight’s match at the Bernabeu.

Latest Manchester City injury news.

Rodri, Manuel Akanji and Oscar Bobb are out of tonight’s match due to injury. Rodri is continuing his recovery from the ACL injury he sustained in September. Manuel Akanji is facing 8-10 weeks on the sidelines after having surgery on an adbuctor injury. Bobb is yet to come back from the fractured leg he sustained at the beginning of the season.

Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and Jack Grealish all trained yesterday ahead of tonight’s match. They were all named in Manchester City’s travelling squad for the clash with Real Madrid. That means all three players are available for the crucial match at the Bernabeu.

Predicted Manchester City starting eleven.

Ederson: City’s number-one keeper was superb against Newcastle. He will also be eager to make amends for his errors late on in last week’s first leg.

John Stones: Stones has been absolutely superb of late. He appears to be an automatic selection for tonight’s match.

Ruben Dias: Dias missed his team’s win over Newcastle due to him being unable to play a full game. He appears to be at full fitness and I expect him to start tonight.

Abdukodir Khusanov: The young centre-back was brilliant against Newcastle. His pace and strength could be crucial at the back against Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo. The only question for me is whether he starts at right-back or centre-back.

Josko Gvardiol: An automatic selection at left-back. Gvardiol’s recent form has been outstanding and he could be crucial to tonight’s result.

Nico: The Spanish midfielder looms as City’s most important player tonight. If he can dictate the midfield battle anything is possible for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Bernardo Silva: I expect Bernardo to start in place of Gundogan tonight.

Phil Foden: It’s a toss-up between De Bruyne or Foden to start tonight but I expect Foden to start in midfield.

Savinho: The Brazilian international is another player who appears to be an automatic selection for tonight’s match.

Omar Marmoush: Fresh off a hat trick against Newcastle you’d expect Marmoush to start.

Erling Haaland: Haaland appears to be fully fit and if he fires he could help lead Manchester City to a famous victory.
