Manchester City face Sunderland today at the Etihad Stadium in their final Premier League fixture before the extended international break. So far, City have won six consecutive matches in all competitions to begin the season. They’ll be aiming to make it seven from seven, and five from five in the Premier League today against Sunderland. However, a tough test awaits Enzo Maresca’s side today. The Black Cats are a tough opponent and their team is built for the modern Premier League. They are physically imposing and possess pace and power in the final third. Régis Le Bris’ side will be up for today’s match, so Manchester City will have to be at their best to take full advantage of Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to Brighton yesterday.
Here is the last City injury and team news and my predicted Manchester City starting eleven for today’s match.
In positive news for Manchester City, Enzo Maresca revealed that Jeremy Doku is likely to be available to play in today’s match. The Belgian winger has been sidelined due to a calf injury he sustained in City’s defeat to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield in August. Doku hasn’t played since August 16, so he may be on the bench for today’s match. Outside of Doku, City have no other players with any injury concerns.
Disappointingly, Phil Foden is suspended for today’s match. Foden will serve the second match of the three-game suspension that he received for being sent off for violent conduct in Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Manchester United last weekend. Unfortunately, Foden will not be available for selection until Manchester City play PSG in their second UEFA Champions League league phase at the Etihad Stadium on October 14.

Enzo Maresca heavily rotated his squad to give his full squad a run out in City’s 5-0 Carabao Cup third-round tie win over Norwich City. It is expected that Maresca will make another ten changes to that starting lineup today. It is expected that Maresca will select his strongest available starting eleven for today’s match. That is how I believe City will lineup today and my predicted Manchester City starting eleven can be seen below.
