Manchester City will be looking to make it five wins out of five in the Premier League when they welcome Sunderland to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Enzo Maresca’s side eased to a 5-0 win over Norwich City in the EFL Cup on Thursday, extending a run of six successive victories across three competitions since taking charge, and sit on 12 points after four league games. Sunderland have four points from as many matches, and are yet to win away from home this season; a defeat at the Etihad would make it three games without an away win for the first time since January.

Regis Le Bris’s side head into the weekend having secured their maiden Europa League win against AZ Alkmaar in midweek, but they have never won at the Etihad, and Maresca has warned that Sunderland will provide City’s “stiffest test of the season” so far. It is the sides’ first meeting since a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light on New Year’s Day.

Phil Foden will serve the second game of a three-match suspension following his red card in the Manchester derby. Maresca has confirmed that Jeremy Doku “probably” can be available after missing six games with a calf injury, though a start looks unlikely. Erling Haaland, rested for the midweek cup win, is set to return and lead the line.

Sunderland

Habib Diarra (thigh) and Romaine Mundle (knee) remain sidelined, while Reinildo Mandava is suspended following his red card against Arsenal. Omar Alderete is a doubt after being forced off with a muscle problem in midweek, opening the door for Daniel Ballard to return at centre-back, with Dayann Methalie in line for a first Premier League start at left-back.
