Manchester City host Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday looking to make it five wins from five in the Premier League.
Enzo Maresca’s side have won every game across all competitions since he took charge, most recently a 5-0 EFL Cup victory over Norwich City in which 17-year-old academy graduate Floyd Samba scored twice on his full debut. Maresca has been quick to play down any complacency, saying he expects Sunderland to provide City’s toughest examination of the season so far.
Phil Foden will serve the second game of a three-match suspension picked up in the Manchester derby. Jeremy Doku, who has missed six matches with a calf injury, has been given the green light by Maresca to be involved but is unlikely to start. Erling Haaland was rested for the midweek cup win and is set to return to lead the line — the Norwegian has scored six goals in as many games this season and found the net against every Premier League side he has faced at City bar Sunderland.
With Doku not expected to start, Iliman Ndiaye and Antoine Semenyo could be handed starts out wide, with Maresca reverting to a strong first-choice XI after making 10 changes in midweek.
Manchester City possible starting XI (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol; Anderson, Fernandez; Ndiaye, Cherki, Semenyo; Haaland
The Premier League match kicks off at 14:00 on Sunday, 20 September 2026.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK.
