Manchester City will be aiming to make it two wins from two when they face an in-form Tottenham side this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s men made the perfect start to their title defence with a commanding 4-0 victory away at Wolves.

Erling Haaland netted a brace, while debutants Tijani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki also got on the scoresheet. Former Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri impressed on his return to Molineux as City climbed to the top of the early Premier League standings on goal difference.

Tottenham were equally convincing in their opener, sweeping aside newly promoted Burnley 3-0.

Richarlison struck twice, including a stunning overhead kick that is already being talked about as one of the goals of the season. Brennan Johnson added the third, continuing his fine scoring form in a Spurs shirt.

The standout performer, however, was Mohamed Kudus. The Ghanaian playmaker registered two assists on debut, immediately winning over the Spurs faithful and offering plenty of promise for the season ahead.

Man City vs Tottenham is scheduled for a 12:30pm BST kick-off on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

The game will take place at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City vs Tottenham team news

Rodri is edging closer to a return, but it appears unlikely that Pep Guardiola will risk the Ballon d’Or winner just yet.

James Trafford is expected to keep his place in goal as City’s off-pitch goalkeeping saga continues. Ederson missed the Wolves clash through injury and has since been linked with a move to Galatasaray.

New signings Rayan Cherki and Omar Marmoush are both pushing for starting spots in Guardiola’s star-studded squad.

However, Manuel Akanji may again be left out amid speculation over his future, while Savinho, also seeking a move away, was absent from the matchday squad last time out.

For Tottenham, Thomas Frank could hand João Palhinha his first start after an encouraging cameo on his Premier League debut.

Destiny Udogie remains a doubt after missing much of pre-season, while Yves Bissouma is also nursing a knee injury.

Dejan Kulusevski is still sidelined with the serious knee injury he sustained in May.

Spurs are also exploring attacking reinforcements following James Maddison’s long-term injury, with Eberechi Eze a prime target, though any move is unlikely to materialise before the City clash.

Man City vs Tottenham prediction

Manchester City have managed just four wins in their last 12 Premier League encounters with Tottenham Hotspur, drawing twice and losing six times. However, they did edge a 1-0 victory in their most recent meeting back in February.

City have not recorded back-to-back league wins over Spurs since a run of four between December 2017 and April 2019.

Recent clashes at the Etihad have been especially entertaining, with the last four producing 21 goals, nine for City and 12 for Spurs, and the visitors scoring at least twice on each occasion.

Both sides head into this fixture in strong form, but with home advantage on their side, City may just have the edge in what is often a finely balanced contest.
