Kalvin Phillips is set to travel with Manchester City for their upcoming pre-season tour of the United States later this month.

The 28-year-old returned to the City Football Academy for pre-season on Monday, joining a handful of first-team players to partake in medical testing and a training session ahead of preparations for the 2024/25 campaign.

Phillips made just two starts for Pep Guardiola’s side last season and moved to the London Stadium on a short-term transfer in January, signing for West Ham for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

The Englishman, who wasn’t selected by Gareth Southgate for the European Championship in Germany, featured eight times for the Hammers in the Premier League and also played in the UEFA Europa League.

The midfielder has made 31 appearances for Manchester City since signing from Leeds United for £42 million July 2022, and was rewarded with a Premier League medal in May, despite featuring only 10 times for the Sky Blues.

Phillips won five trophies with the Blues prior to moving to West Ham on loan, clinching the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, Emirates FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup with Manchester City.

Manchester City will be bidding for more silverware this season, and will prepare for the upcoming campaign with a four-match tour of the United States across late July and early August, with matches against Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea.

Guardiola’s side also face an FA Community Shield clash against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium next month, prior to starting their Premier League title defence against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Phillips is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, with the potential for the midfielder to complete another temporary exit or permanently leave the east Manchester club for the new campaign.

Simon Stone reports that the 28-year-old is still expected to travel with Manchester City to the USA for pre-season despite doubt surrounding his immediate future.

Everton, Fulham and AS Roma have all been linked with signing Phillips, although any potential return to Elland Road was scuppered by Leeds’ failure to secure promotion back to the top-flight last season.
