Manchester City have added January signings Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi to their UEFA Champions League squad for the knockout stages.
Semenyo has scored four times for the eight-time Premier League champions since joining forces with Pep Guardiola from Bournemouth for £64 million last month, with the 26-year-old in line to retain his starting place against Liverpool on Sunday.
Guehi has also impressed in his first set of Premier League starts against Wolves and Tottenham and after being ineligible to play in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle United in midweek, the England international is also expected to start at Anfield this weekend.
City are chasing silverware on several fronts and have already progressed to the Round of 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League courtesy of an eighth place finish in the group phase, crucially avoiding the play-offs amid a jam-packed schedule of fixtures.
The Blues must win against Liverpool on Sunday to keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal, who extended their lead at the top of the table to six points after a 4-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road – whereas City squandered a two goal lead against Tottenham and were held to a 2-2 draw in north London.
Guardiola has voiced his frustration at Guehi not being eligible to play against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, with the EFL adamant on their registration rules following a plea from the Manchester City manager to have his £20 million signing available for the final.
However, the Catalan will be glad to welcome Guehi and Semenyo to City’s UEFA Champions League squad for the knockout stages at last – after the January signings were ineligible in recent group-stage meetings with Bodo/Glimt and Galatasaray.
Here is Manchester City’s 23-player List A squad in full for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages:
Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Donnarumma, James Trafford, Marcus Bettinelli
Defenders: John Stones, Abdukodir Khusanov, Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Matheus Nunes
Midfelders: Rodri, Nico Gonzalez, Mateo Kovacic, Bernardo Silva, Tijjani Reijnders, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki
Forwards: Savinho, Jeremy Doku, Antoine Semenyo, Omar Marmoush, Erling Haaland
It is worth noting that academy graduates Nico O’Reilly, Rico Lewis and Max Alleyne have been included in the List-B squad, which also includes several other academy stars under 21.
Oscar Bobb and Stefan Ortega Moreno, who left City to join Fulham and Nottingham Forest respectively in the January transfer window, have made way in the List-A squad, with Guehi and Semenyo coming in as they count as homegrown players – given that they are association-trained.
However, Sverre Nypan has been unable to make the UEFA Champions League squad following his return to the Etihad Stadium midway through a season-long loan at Middlesbrough.
City have prioritised naming Semenyo and Guehi as homegrown players in their knockout stage squad – and Nypan can neither be registered alongside Lewis, Alleyne and O’Reilly in the List B squad, as members of that list need to have been registered with the club for at least three years.
