The second-choice goalkeeper will get another chance to impress
Manchester United will play back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir against Arsenal in Sunday’s FA Cup third-round game.
United head to the Emirates Stadium this weekend to begin their defence of the FA Cup trophy won last season, when they beat Manchester City in the Wembley final.
Manager Ruben Amorim is hoping to build momentum after a morale-boosting 2-2 draw at Liverpool last week.
Amorim has confirmed he is starting to rotate less, after playing as many players as possible during the first few months of his tenure to help learn his best line-up.
United are expected to play a strong XI against the Gunners, but second-choice keeper Bayindir will get an opportunity to impress in the cup clash.
Asked about which goalkeeper will play, Amorim said: ‘”That is a special position, it is a very good question, he’s going to play, Altay.”
It will be a rare outing for Bayindir, who is yet to make a Premier League appearance since arriving from Fenerbahce in 2023 but has made three appearances in the Carabao Cup this term.
Bayindir last month struggled in a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, capped off by conceding directly from a corner for Spurs’ decisive fourth goal.
