In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Manchester United are in talks to land AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit. It is believed that the Red Devils would face competition from Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the race to land the Dutch talent next year.
Smit has enjoyed a good run of form at the Dutch club in this campaign so far as he has put in a run of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The Dutch midfielder has participated in 19 matches for AZ Alkmaar this season, scoring two goals and earning four assists in all competitions.
The 19-year-old has proven his worth at the centre of the park and deserves credit for making 13 tackles, ten blocks, six interceptions and six clearances in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 86.6% in the Dutch top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Dutch club will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, Man United would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Smit next year.

Smit is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is a tidy passer as well.
The Dutch talent can even chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Red Devils manage to bring him on board next year.
We can expect Smit to bring more quality and depth to Man United boss Ruben Amorim’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford in the coming years.
At 19, the future looks quite promising for Smit as long as he continues to improve with each season. Thus, he would be a good option for Man United to consider in the long run.
