Sesko has endured a slow start to his Manchester United career

Sesko joined Man Utd for a reported £73.7million from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window, with Ruben Amorim’s side holding off competition from Newcastle for the striker’s signature.

The Slovenia international’s arrival at Old Trafford completed an overhaul of Man United’s front three, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo also making the switch from Wolves and Brentford respectively for a combined £130m.

Of the trio, Mbeumo has certainly had the bigger impact to date. The Cameroon international has scored five goals - including the opener in the 2-1 win over Liverpool - and weighed in with one assist in 11 appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Cunha and Sesko have four goal involvements between them so far. However, Neville still believes the jury is out on the latter when delivering his verdict on United’s new trio.

Speaking on NBC Sports, Neville said: “He's miles off it compared to the other forwards United brought in, like Cunha and Mbeumo.

“He looks awkward, his touch was off a few times when balls went over the top.

“For £80m (£73.7m), yes he's young and still settling but you want to see something more.”

Amid this assessment, Jason Wilcox, Man United’s director of football, says he has full faith that Sesko will prove his doubters wrong.

“Benji, at the top end, he's going to be an amazing player,” Wilcox said in an interview on the club’s official website.

“It's difficult to be the no.9 at United and I know sometimes that Matheus and Bryan are getting a lot of credit, but the runs that Benji is making is also helping Matheus and Bryan as well.

"All four of them have done really well, the summer signings from last year, they are top professionals.”

Sesko will hope to lead the line for Man Utd on Saturday when they seek to end a run of four straight defeats at the hands of Tottenham in the final game before the international break.
