Manchester United have canceled a deadline day exit for Tyrell Malacia

According to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, Malacia was on his way to Istanbul but director of football Jason Wilcox called him back to United.

The surprising twist has left the 26-year-old in ‘disbelief’ as he was desperate to exit Old Trafford for more game time.

Malacia was banished to Ruben Amorim’s infamous ‘bomb squad’ last summer, but he was the only player who failed to secure a transfer exit.

The left-back has made only one appearance in the Premier League this season, and that came as a late substitute against Newcastle United in December.

Malacia’s contract will expire in June, meaning this could be United’s final opportunity to cash in on the player.

It seems they decided to retain the Dutch footballer’s services due to shortage of options after Patrick Dorgu’s hamstring injury.

Luke Shaw remains the club’s first-choice, while both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are also capable of playing as a left-back.

Malacia joined United in 2022 for a fee around £13 million.

But form and fitness issues meant his time in Manchester wasn’t  successful, as the 26-year-old made just 48 appearances in all competitions.

Only a few hours remain in the 2026 winter transfer window, but United have not added any new players to the squad.

The English giants are only focusing on outgoings, with Sam Mather, Joe Hugill and Rhys Bennett having left the club.
