Summer signing underwent foot surgery in August

Manchester United have confirmed Leny Yoro has made “significant” progress on his return from injury.

The defender is yet to play a competitive game for the Red Devils after a £52m move from Lille over the course of the summer, having suffered a foot injury during a pre-season game with Arsenal in the United States.

Yoro underwent surgery in August and was expected to miss around three months of action but recently updated supporters on social media by posting footage of him going through his paces at United’s Carrington training base.

While it remains unclear as to when Yoro will make his competitive debut, the club confirmed the 18-year-old had passed a “significant milestone” in his recovery.

Yoro was pictured training out on grass on Monday and a statement read: “Our no.15 has now progressed to the next phase in the process, as the photographs above document his first day back out on the grass at our Carrington base.

“Leny was also put through his paces in the gym on Thursday, under the watchful eye of our medical staff.

“There is plenty of work still to do for the centre-back and he will begin the transition to group training when he is ready.”

United travel to Istanbul to meet former manager Jose Mourinho and his struggling Fenerbahce side in the Europa League on Thursday night.
