Manchester United consider final push for Barcelona homegrown defender on deadline day | OneFootball

In a major development, Gerard Romero of Jijantes FC reports that Manchester United are considering making a final late push to try and sign FC Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde.

The 22-year-old left-back has fallen down the pecking order at Barça and the club are open to a sale if an attractive offer arrives.

Manchester United, in that regard, have had their eyes on Balde for some time now and have also held multiple conversations with his agent, Jorge Mendes, over a possible move.

However, it was suggested that the Red Devils had abandoned the pursuit of the Spaniard due to the total cost of the operation – the Catalans’ €40 million transfer fee demand and the player’s high salary.

But the left-back position continues to remain an area of concern for Michael Carrick, with Luke Shaw not performing at the desired level.

Having failed to land their priority target, Lewis Hall of Newcastle United, Manchester United are now considering one final push on the transfer deadline day to try and sign Balde from Barcelona.

Previous reports suggested that the Premier League giants only wanted a loan deal for the La Masia graduate, something that Barcelona are unwilling to accept. So, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils are willing to alter their approach.

However, it must also be noted that Balde has no intention of leaving Barça this summer even though his status and prominence in the team have taken a hit.

Hansi Flick has made it abundantly clear to the 22-year-old youngster that he is no longer a key member of his plans.

Xavi Espart has started all three La Liga matches this season for Barcelona, while Joao Cancelo has been asked to come on as a substitute.

Balde was completely left out of the squad for the opening game against Elche, and has been an unused substitute in the subsequent matches against Athletic Club and Rayo Vallecano.

Despite the situation being as it is, Balde does not wish to leave Barcelona. But with Manchester United now considering one final push for the left-back, whether he is willing to reconsider his position remains to be seen.
