Manchester United invested heavily to upgrade their forward line last year, bringing in Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
The club’s priority this summer is strengthening the midfield.
Casemiro has already announced he will leave United at the end of the season, while Manuel Ugarte faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils made an approach for Carlos Baleba last summer, but Brighton & Hove Albion turned down their offer.
United have reignited their interest despite the Cameroonian’s struggles this season.
They are considering several options and a move for Baleba is highly-plausible after personal terms were broadly agreed on his behalf last summer, per The Athletic.
United were ready to pay £75 million for the 22-year-old last year, but now feel a fee around £50m would represent fair value.
Baleba has suffered a dip in form in 2025-26 after playing a pivotal role in helping Brighton finish eighth in the Premier League.
He has featured in 27 league games this term, but has completed 90 minutes only three times.
United have been linked with many top midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window, including Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Sandro Tonali.
The 22-year-old produced a man of the match display against United last month, before scoring the winner at Arsenal.
Michael Carrick’s side are said to be most impressed with his character and ability to run with the ball and get forward.
