In a recent report, The Evening Standard revealed that Manchester United could reignite their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils could go back to sign the Cameroonian talent at the end of this campaign after failing to land him last summer.
Baleba is having another solid campaign at the English club as he has been responsible for putting in a handful of impressive performances for them in the Premier League. The 21-year-old has played in 14 matches for Brighton this season in all competitions.
The Cameroonian talent has offered decent protection for his teammates at the back and has done well to make 12 tackles, four blocks, ten interceptions and 11 clearances in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 85% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the American Express Community Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for Man United to land him on the cheap next year.

Baleba is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
However, the Cameroonian sensation has to find a way to improve his productivity in the final third. Baleba already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Man United.
We can expect him to inject more bite and steel into Ruben Amorim’s midfield department. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at Old Trafford in the coming years.
At 21, the future looks quite bright for Baleba as long as he continues to improve with each season. The Cameroonian talent could even help Man United compete across all fronts over the next few years. Hence, he would be an excellent choice for the Red Devils to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign.
