The 26-year-old Dutch ace continues to be linked with a summer departure, given that Barça still need to generate revenue through sales while his wages will also be a burden for the club.

Manchester United could move for Frenkie de Jong

If it comes to the possibility of a departure for Frenkie de Jong, there is unlikely to be a shortage of suitors for the Barcelona superstar.

And, Manchester United are expected to be at the front of the queue for the 26-year-old AFC Ajax midfield superstar.

The Red Devils have been pursuing the Netherlands international’s signing since 2021 when Erik ten Hag took over as manager and still continue to yearn for his capture.

Ten Hag has signed a new contract and Manchester United are now closing in on the capture of two Dutch footballers.

Indeed, talks are progressing for the Red Devils to sign De Jong’s former Ajax teammate, Matthijs de Ligt, from Bayern Munich while they are also working to secure the services of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

There may be a temptation for the Premier League giants to continue their recruitment with the addition of another Dutch star in the form of Frenkie de Jong.

The midfielder’s future at Barcelona is not entirely guaranteed at this point owing to the economic situation and Manchester United could come calling again for the 26-year-old.

Currently recovering from an injury, De Jong is unlikely to be ready in time for the start of the season. Whether he still remains at the club by the time the summer window closes remains to be seen.
