Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has returned to individual grass training in a huge boost for Red Devils manager Michael Carrick, according to United insider Sully.

The Argentine has not played for Man United since February 10 and did suffer a minor setback after coming close to overcoming his calf injury.

Martinez is pushing hard for a return to the side, taking the step up in his recovery having been doing strength and conditioning work in recent weeks.

Man United are travelling to Dublin for an intensive training camp after the international break and Martinez is expected to join them.

The defender is pushing hard to prove his fitness ahead of the Premier League game against Leeds United on April 13.

He has almost two weeks to do so and not many would be surprised if he is available for selection when the Whites visit Old Trafford for the game.

Martinez is unlikely to be thrown straight into action given his lack of match fitness, but he could be involved against Leeds and be ready to start games in the coming weeks.

The Red Devils visit Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea after their next game, and Carrick could do with the Argentine for such a game.

Man United play Brentford, Liverpool, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion in their final five league fixtures of the campaign.

They will be desperate to win as many games as possible going forward to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

The Red Devils are currently third in the league table, one point ahead of fourth-place Aston Villa, while fifth-place Liverpool are six points behind them.

Nothing is wrapped up just yet and Carrick knows only a strong end to the season will boost his chances of getting the job permanently.
