Manchester United have responded to claims that they enquired about Jurgen Klopp following his departure from Liverpool.
They are still looking for the perfect successor to Sir Alex Ferguson, who left in 2013, and have appointed 11 different managers in permanent and interim roles since then.
They wanted to replace Erik ten Hag ahead of and during the 2024-25 campaign, and Klopp’s agent has claimed that they made enquiries after he left Liverpool at the end of the previous season.
However, Man United have denied they enquired about Klopp when approached by The Athletic.
The German made it clear after spending eight-and-a-half years in charge of Liverpool that he would not manage any other club in England.
He has since returned to football after a break, taking up a role as Red Bull’s head of global soccer in January last year.
It is unknown whether Man United attempted to lure him to Old Trafford, but he would not have been tempted to join them given his connection with Liverpool.
Ruben Amorim got the job after Ten Hag was dismissed, taking over in November 2024.
However, he was sacked last month, and Michael Carrick is looking to put himself in a favourable position ahead of the appointment of a permanent manager at the end of the season.
Man United have won four and drawn one of their five Premier League games under him, and their performances over the coming 12 games could determine his future.
