Apart from multiple centre-back additions, Manchester United also have plans of bringing in a new versatile full-back should Aaron Wan-Bissaka be moved on.

The right-back’s current deal is valid until 2025 after the club triggered the one-year extension option in his contract. That was mainly done to preserve his market value so that the club could recoup the maximum amount from his sale.

After winning back his place in Erik ten Hag’s first season as manager, injuries and inconsistency meant the 26-year-old was overtaken by Diogo Dalot in the right-back pecking order. He did not convince when moving forward and the manager is keen on a more attack-minded full-back.

The former Crystal Palace star has been linked with a move to West Ham as well as Galatasaray but so far, United’s asking price has proved to be beyond both clubs.

United to miss out on Mazraoui

The Red Devils were eyeing a move for Noussair Mazraoui of Bayern Munich with the Moroccan having already worked under Erik ten Hag during his Ajax days.

The Hammers were eyeing the same star and according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, the London club have taken the lead in the race for the Morocco international.

With United struggling to move on Wan-Bissaka, the likelihood of landing Mazraoui is decreasing by the minute. Interestingly, the £50 million right-back is keen on moving to Inter Milan.

And this opens up the possibility of a swap deal involving long-term United target Denzel Dumfries moving to Old Trafford in return. Intermediaries have already spoken along similar lines.

“West Ham United are closing in on a deal to sign Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui. Manchester United retain an interest in the 26-year-old but West Ham are ahead at present.

Swap deal with Inter for Dumfries

“Any deal for United would require Aaron Wan-Bissaka to depart. The right-back, 26, has turned down West Ham and favours a move to Inter Milan — this summer or as a free agent when his contract expires in June 2025.

“An idea that would see Wan-Bissaka go to Inter and Denzel Dumfries join Manchester United is being discussed by intermediaries, although that possible switch is not advanced as things stand.”

The Netherlands international is adept at going forward, notching four goals and six assists last term as opposed to Wan-Bissaka’s three assists last term.

It remains to be seen whether it is a straight swap of if United will need to pay extra to land the former PSV Eindhoven star. His deal also ends in 2025 and Inter are also keen on moving him on with the player refusing to sign a new deal so far.
