Mason Mount also in line for comeback at Turf Moor
Manchester United have been handed a double fitness boost as both Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount have both been passed fit to face Burnley.
Fernandes, United’s talisman and captain, was sorely missed after picking up a hamstring injury against Aston Villa before Christmas. So too has Mount, who picked up a knock on Boxing Day.
But interim manager Darren Fletcher, called up in place of the recently sacked Ruben Amorim, has confirmed that both will be back for Wednesday’s trip to Turf Moor.
“Mason and Bruno were pushing to play against Leeds. The decision was that they weren’t quite ready, so they’ve trained,” said Fletcher, who made 341 appearances as a midfielder for the club.
He added, though, that both returnees would have their minutes managed so as to avoid relapses ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup third round meeting with Brighton.

Fletcher continued: “They should be back in the squad, but they’ll be on managed minutes as well, restricted minutes because obviously they’ve just returned to training.
“That’s good news, especially the fact that they’ve been in good form. Mason Mount’s form has been fantastic and we don’t have to speak about Bruno.
“He’s the captain, he’s the leader of the team so to have them available for selection is great news for me and for the players and for the club and for the fans.”
Fletcher will still be made to contend with several absentees. Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo remain away at AFCON, while Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo are all sidelined through injury.
