Leicester City could cash in on Jeremy Monga this summer as they cut costs, with Abdul Fatawu attracting suitors and a former midfielder moving on elsewhere.
All of the Premier League’s biggest five clubs have been linked with the 16-year-old winger in the past year. Manchester Evening News reports Manchester United have held talks over a deal and that a £15m fee is being discussed.
Any sale at that level would likely come after his contract switches to professional terms when he turns 17 on July 10, which would strengthen City’s position in negotiations.
Everton, Sunderland, Leeds, Fulham and RB Leipzig have been credited with interest in Fatawu, and newly promoted Coventry are now in the frame. City may seek to maximise any fee for their most valuable player.
A quick resolution is not expected, with Fatawu focused on representing Ghana at the World Cup over the next month.
City are assessing free agents released by Championship clubs. Academy graduate Callum Elder has been let go by Derby and could rival Luke Thomas at left-back, having won promotion from League One three times.
Papy Mendy is leaving Watford at the end of his contract. The midfielder turns 34 next month and made 25 Championship appearances, featuring regularly in the second half of the season.
