Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to make a decision on the beleaguered manager

Manchester United have made Simone Inzaghi a preferred managerial target should Erik ten Hag be sacked.

According to the Daily Star, the Inter Milan head coach and former England boss Gareth Southgate are the two serious candidates up for the role should a vacancy become available.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will make a decision on Ten Hag's possible sacking during the upcoming international break, effectively handing the manager two games - against Porto and Aston Villa - to save his job.

Ratcliffe is reportedly reluctant to sack Ten Hag, having less than three months ago handed the beleaguered manager a new contract off the back of the club's worst ever Premier League campaign.

The Glazers, sporting director Dan Ashworth and chief executive Omar Berrada will all have an input on any decision. Southgate appears to have the edge due to his close relationship with Ashworth.

Should Ten Hag be given the boot, then Inzaghi and Southgate are considered the frontrunners.

Inzaghi, who has won five trophies with Inter including the Serie A title last season, has less than two years to run on his current contract.
