In a recent report, Sport claimed that Manchester United have identified Racing Santander youngster Jorge Salinas as a target for this summer transfer window. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils are willing to trigger the Spanish defender’s release clause to beat Barcelona in the race to land him this off-season.

Salinas’ Impressive Form In La Liga

Salinas enjoyed a good run of form at the Spanish club in the previous campaign when he produced a series of impressive displays for them on the left flank. The 19-year-old picked up seven assists in 34 matches for Rayo Vallecano last season across all competitions.

The Spanish teenager is currently one of the most gifted young defenders in La Liga. Thus, the Red Devils would do well to win the race for his services in this transfer period.

His current contract at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for Man United to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Manchester United Have Identified Salinas As A Target: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Salinas is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to make some important interceptions at the back for his team. He usually clears his lines when required and is a good passer of the ball.

The Spanish whizkid can even engineer some inviting chances for his teammates to score and can contribute by picking up his fair share of assists from the left flank. Salinas is primarily a left-back but can also play as a centre-back if told to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Red Devils manage to sign him later this year.

Salinas would improve the quality of Man United boss Michael Carrick’s defence in the long run. He is already good enough to compete for regular first-team football at Old Trafford.

At 19, the future looks quite bright for Salinas. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the long term, so Man United should consider triggering his release clause to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
