Red Devils will be desperate for a boost after disappointing defeat last time out
Manchester United need as big an injury boost as they can get after they suffered a 3-1 defeat by Brentford last weekend.
Further pressure was piled onto Ruben Amorim as the Red Devils fell to another loss at the Gtech Community Stadium, where Igor Thiago’s brace and Mathias Jensen condemned them to a third defeat of the campaign.
Benjamin Sesko getting off the mark for his new side was the sole positive on a disappointing day in west London, where Amorim was missing some of his key names.
That said, he also had a couple of returning stars to call upon, the likes of Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount, who had completed their comebacks from their respective knocks against Chelsea, before playing further part in the Brentford debacle.
Casemiro missed out on the trip to the capital with a suspension after his two yellows in the 2-1 win over the Blues at Old Trafford, while Amad Diallo was given compassionate leave after losing a family member.
Amorim confirmed that Moroccan defender Mazraoui would be “out until the international break” ahead of the game against Brentford.
The former Ajax and Bayern Munich man has been struggling on and off with a thigh injury since pre-season, and is unlikely to return to action until next month/
Potential return date: October 19, 2025 vs Liverpool (H)
There is, however, more positive news for United, with Lisandro Martinez slowly making his comeback from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The defender has been out since February with the problem, but is back in team training and could be called upon soon.
“When you have that injury, you have that time where you recover a lot of things really hard, then there is the boring part where it looks like you don't go to the next step,” Amorim said.
“We miss a lot Licha, especially in this moment, we miss his aggression in everything he does, we miss him.
“But he's always there in every meeting. In training, he sometimes finishes his and stays to watch the training. We need Licha in this team.”
Potential return date: Late 2025
