Manchester United interested in Joao Palhinha loan deal after failed Ederson pursuit | OneFootball

Manchester United are prepared to explore the possibility of signing Joao Palhinha on loan, as per reports.

United’s failure to qualify for European football next season has left many question marks over their transfer budget for the summer transfer window.

Still, INEOS have started their business on a bullish note, having already triggered a £62.5million release clause in Matheus Cunha’s contract at Wolves. They are now in talks to sign Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth around £60million.

Ruben Amorim also wants to sign a new striker and it would take a considerable figure to bring a reliable goalscorer for the United head coach. This is bound to have an impact on United’s aim to strengthen other areas, including midfield.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United want to sign a midfielder but only in a loan deal.

Now, GIVEMESPORT reveal United are ready to “explore a loan deal” for Palhinha after giving up on their pursuit of Ederson, who is thought to be out of the club’s reach due to Atalanta’s financial demands.

Any approach from the Premier League giants would rely on Palhinha’s internal talks with Bayern over his future.

The Bundesliga giants are likely to prefer a permanent departure but United are interested in recruiting him on a temporary basis.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder moved to Munich in 2024 in a £48m deal. However, he has struggled to impress Vincent Kompany, with the Bayern boss handing him just six Bundesliga starts during the 2024/25 campaign.

The situation has resulted in Amorim “sniffing an opportunity to pounce”.

The ex-Sporting CP boss got the best out of the Portugal international in Lisbon before the player left the club for Fulham.

United have been monitoring Palhinha since his time at Fulham and consider him an “intriguing low-cost option.” Still, everything depends on Bayern’s stance, which will reportedly only become clearer in the coming weeks.
