Manchester United are launching a social media crackdown aimed at limiting ‘self-promotional’ material from their staff.
According to The Telegraph, senior club officials have expressed frustration at the amount of unapproved digital content being posted online by staff with behind-the-scenes access to the first team.
The club reportedly want greater control over what appears on social media and are set to provide staff with new guidelines in that regard.
United insist the move is not meant to stifle enthusiasm but rather to ensure sensitive material is not shared online. The new policy has sparked mixed reactions within the club.
Some employees see the move as heavy-handed, arguing that it is a positive thing to demonstrate pride in their work.
Others are more understanding of the situation and point out that the club’s legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson controlled what was made public.
United endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign in the 2024-25 season, but the mood around the club has improved this term.
The Red Devils endured a difficult start to the season, but manager Ruben Amorim has brought some stability in recent weeks.
But he engineered a big turnaround, leading his team to three consecutive victories against Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion.
United dropped points at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. However, they battled back from losing positions in both games to earn a point, which is a big positive.
