Manchester United suffered their 10th defeat of the Premier League season against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford last weekend.
Manager Ruben Amorim was reportedly furious in the dressing room after the game. The Portuguese tactician may want one or two signings before the winter transfer deadline.
The Red Devils have already established contact with Lecce for left-back Patrick Dorgu. Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that a formal bid worth £23 million plus add-ons was made last night.
However, the Serie A outfit want £34m for the Danish star amid fresh interest from Napoli. Dorgu reportedly favours a move to United.
The Red Devils have had concerns in the left wing-back department this term. Diogo Dalot has been the regular in the role under Amorim but has struggled with his positioning.
The Portuguese was one of the club’s best players last term but has failed to impress. He has been defensively vulnerable and not provided an attacking outlet.
Dorgu would be perfect to replace him. The 20-year-old started his career at Lecce as a left-back, but he has primarily played as a right-winger for the Italian outfit this season.
Lecce want to secure a premium fee. United need to act quickly with an improved offer, as Napoli could make a more favourable proposal.
They are willing to allow Dorgu to stay at Lecce on loan for the rest of the season. If United haggle over the price, Napoli could gain the advantage in the pursuit.
