Manchester United manager Michael Carrick wants to add a set-piece coach to his team and Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Andreas Georgson is a target, according to The Athletic.
The Man United boss’ coaching team has been confirmed but he still wants to add to his team and could lure Georgson back to the Old Trafford club from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club.
The Spurs coach became a set-piece coach with the Red Devils in July 2024 and his work was well received.
Georgson joined Thomas Frank at the North London club but his services were retained despite the sacking of the former Brentford boss.
He has since worked with new Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi, helping Spurs hold on to their Premier League status following a 1-0 win over Everton today.
The Italian could look to make changes to his coaching staff and Georgson could be on his way out.
The Swede also works with the Sweden national team as one of the assistants to Graham Potter, specifically as a set-piece coach.
The former Man United coach first moved to the Premier League in 2019, joining Brentford as their head of set-pieces and individual developments and playing a pivotal role in the Bees’ set-piece efficiency, using a data-driven model for improvement.
Georgson moved to Arsenal in August 2020, working under Gunners boss Mikel Arteta before leaving in 2021.
He served as the interim manager of Malmo from July to September 2022, and later became their sporting director before leaving for Southampton in August 2023.
Georgson brings plenty of experience to the table and Carrick thinks he could be a solid addition to his backroom staff.
Man United want to challenge for the Premier League title next season, and they could do with a quality set-piece coach given how crucial dead-ball situations have been to winning games in recent seasons.
