With profit and sustainability rules catching up with Manchester United, the club is desperately trying to move on a large number of players in the summer.

Only after raising enough capital through a large-scale summer clearout can the club start thinking about recruitment.

As per most reports, only the young trio of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are safe from the potential cull.

Big name players such as Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford could all be moved on with the club’s stance regarding the Mancunian creating a lot of headlines.

The England international, who was last season’s top scorer with 30 goals, has looked a shadow of his former self with only eight goals to his name this year.

Rashford’s drop-off

More than a lack of goals, the 26-year-old’s lack of effort and tendency to give up whenever things do not go his way have been the biggest concerns. He has almost regressed to the dismal level he was showing during former interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s short reign.

But it has been his off-field controversies that have been the biggest letdown with the player spotted partying after a derby defeat and getting drunk and calling in sick ahead of training.

His teammates and manager were far from impressed with fans also calling the boyhood club fan out for his misdemeanors off the field and poor displays on it.

The Peoples Person recently relayed that the forward wants to stay and fight for his place and repay the club for the faith they had in him.

While the club is said to be open to a sale, they will only do so in the event of receiving a huge offer. Now, The Sun have revealed that the player will resist any attempts to move him on as he does not want to leave Manchester.

The only way a move can transpire is if the club agrees to pay-off the player. INEOS are simply in no position to do so considering the player signed a new five-year deal only last year.

“Marcus Rashford will resist any attempt by Manchester United to sell him this summer. Rashford would raise the most cash because any sale of an academy product would become pure profit. A transfer would allow United to splash more money in the summer.

“But forward Rashford, 26, does not want to leave his boyhood club as he is happy in Manchester. Man Utd face handing Rashford a massive pay-off if they try to force him out the door.”

Transfer rumours gathering pace

It is unlikely that too many clubs can afford his wages and while Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move, it is likely that Rashford stays put for now.

Rashford has the talent to be a world-beater and at his age, he should be close to his prime. But his inconsistency is a huge deterrent for any club wanting to win things.

Another concern for INEOS to solve is the fact that Ten Hag’s relationship with the England international has broken down completely with the pair hardly speaking.

“Rashford’s relationship with manager Erik ten Hag has also broken down to the point where the pair barely speak.”

This could prove to be another big blow to Ten Hag’s ambitions of staying. Either Ten Hag or the new manager needs to coax out the best from Rashford next season. But if he fails to prove his worth again, an exit will become a realistic option in 2025.
