The Red Devils had earmarked Fernandes as a priority target to bolster their midfield, but after failing to land the Portuguese talent, recruitment chiefs at Old Trafford have identified Scott as an ideal alternative.
Scott has flourished on the south coast since his move from Bristol City, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young midfielders.
His ability to carry the ball, dictate the tempo, and contribute in the final third has caught the eye of United’s scouting department.
However, prising the ‘amazing’ 22-year-old away from the Vitality Stadium will be far from straightforward.
Bournemouth are well aware of the growing interest in their prized asset and are eager to secure his long-term future.
The Cherries are pushing for Scott to sign a lucrative new contract, which would reportedly include a significant release clause – a move designed to protect his market value while providing a path for a future departure if their valuation is met.
Bournemouth currently value Scott at around £80 million – another steep asking price like in the case of Mateus Fernandes.
United also face fierce competition for Scott’s signature, with a host of top-flight rivals closely monitoring the situation.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea are all keeping tabs on the midfielder. Among the chasing pack, Arsenal appear the most proactive, having already been directly informed of Bournemouth’s firm stance on the player’s valuation and contract situation.
With the summer transfer window heating up, the race to secure one of England’s brightest midfield prospects is well underway, and United will need to act decisively to avoid another high-profile recruitment disappointment.
