The Daily Star report that, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is determined to make a statement in the transfer market, setting his sights on Sporting Lisbon’s teenage prodigy, Geovany Quenda. Amorim, who played a key role in Quenda’s rise at Sporting, is pushing for a £35m move to Old Trafford.
Amorim’s admiration for Quenda is no secret. Having nurtured the winger’s development in Portugal, he now wants him to spearhead a new-look United. “And he is keen to lure the winger to Old Trafford this summer – provided United bosses are willing to fund the deal.” His direct involvement in transfer discussions suggests he sees Quenda as a cornerstone of his project.

To make room for Quenda, United are reportedly considering offloading Marcus Rashford and Antony. Financial constraints could dictate the club’s ability to match Amorim’s ambitions, but with squad changes expected, Quenda remains high on the agenda.
At just 17, Quenda has already made an impact at Sporting, earning his league debut under Amorim and securing a call-up to Portugal’s senior squad. His rapid development hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Portugal boss Roberto Martinez describing him as “astonishing.”

Expectant Manchester United fans will be eager to see if Amorim’s faith in Quenda translates into action. While the youngster’s talent is undeniable, is he ready for the demands of the Premier League? Some might argue that spending £35m on a teenager carries significant risk, especially for a club still struggling for consistency.
Selling Rashford and Antony to finance the deal is also a divisive move. Rashford, despite his inconsistency, remains a homegrown star with a proven Premier League record. Antony, on the other hand, has yet to justify his hefty price tag but has moments of brilliance. Letting them go for an untested 17-year-old would be a bold gamble.
That said, Amorim clearly knows Quenda well and has seen him develop firsthand. If he believes Quenda is the right fit for United’s rebuild, the club must back their manager. With the Premier League’s pace and intensity, the adaptation process won’t be easy, but Quenda’s potential is undeniable.
