Manchester United are planning to loan out Sekou Kone in January to give him much-needed playing chances at first-team level, according to German journalist Christopher Michel.
Man United signed the defensive midfield teenage sensation from Guidars FC in the summer of 2024 and he has since established himself at youth level at the Old Trafford club.
Kone has been training regularly with the Red Devils first-team, but the club want him to pick up needed experience at the top level and are ready to send him out on loan for the second half of 2025-26.
The 19-year-old fractured his eye socket in a National League Cup clash against Tamworth back in August and only recently returned to action, featuring for the Man United under-21s in their 2-0 win over Notts County in the EFL Trophy last week.
There were reports in the summer that Kone could be loaned out to Swiss club Lausanne for the season.
However, that did not happen and his recent injury kept him out of action for almost three months, dealing a huge blow on his first-team chances.
The Mali youth international recently teamed up with Red Devils wing-back Patrick Dorgu, with the pair taking sessions together with the same private coach.
With the likes of the more experienced Kobbie Mainoo struggling for playing opportunities under manager Ruben Amorim, Kone’s chances of making his senior Man United debut anytime soon appear very slim.
The Red Devils will be fielding their best players during the FA Cup as it is the only competition they have a realistic chance of winning this term following early elimination from the Carabao Cup.
As a result, Kone could spend the remainder of the campaign without making an appearance for the first-team if he remains at the club beyond the January transfer window.
It is why a loan deal is best for both parties, and he will not be short of suitors once clubs are aware of his availability in the coming weeks.
