Manchester United players, including Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Harry Maguire, have told the club’s hierarchy they want Michael Carrick as their permanent manager.
Carrick succeeded Ruben Amorim until the end of the season, and there have not been formal talks between both parties over a permanent deal.
However, the former midfielder remains favourite to get the job, although the Old Trafford club want to speak to several candidates,
Carrick has been part of Man United recruitment meetings ahead of the summer transfer window. He is expected to get the job, having helped them secure Champions League qualification.
The Red Devils have been linked with outgoing Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, who is highly regarded for his attacking style.
However, it appears Carrick will get the job following the club’s impressive run since he took over.
They have won ten Premier League games since appointing him, losing two and drawing two.
United have defeated Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa in the process, and Carrick has done his chances of a permanent appointment plenty of favour with those results.
The Red Devils take on Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion in their remaining fixtures of the season.
The fans will now expect United to mount a title challenge next term after setting the bar so high.
