As has been widely reported, Real Madrid plan on reinforcing the full-back positions in the summer with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies emerging as the priority targets for the right and left sides, respectively.
While things may be progressing steadily in pursuit of the Liverpool star, a move for the Bayern Munich speedster appears to be in jeopardy as a possible contract renewal now seems likely.
In that case, Real Madrid are looking at former academy man Miguel Gutierrez, who is shining at Girona, as a ‘Plan B’ to reinforce the left-back position.
However, according to reports in England (h/t AS), Manchester United have now set their sights on a move for Miguel Gutierrez, posing a threat to Real Madrid.
The Red Devils are looking to strengthen its left-back position, possibly as early as January, and Gutierrez is one of the top targets on the club’s agenda.

As per the report, Ruben Amorim, who took over the reins at Old Trafford in November, is believed to be enthusiastic about Gutierrez’s potential.
The player’s style of play is seen a perfect fit for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system. Furthermore, the Spaniard has seen his stock rise significantly in European football due to his impressive performances this season in the Champions League.
Gutierrez has a release clause of €35 million in his contract at Girona, with Real Madrid holding 50% of any future sale.
Despite renewing Ferland Mendy’s contract last summer, Real Madrid are searching for a more attack-minded left-back, with Fran Garcia expected to leave.
Additionally, Los Blancos have the option to re-sign Gutierrez for €8 million, which adds another layer of complexity to the situation.
As per the report, the La Liga champions are monitoring him for a potential return to Madrid. This is particularly true if their pursuit of Davies does not come to fruition. However, the improvement needed in his defensive game remains a point of contention
Either way, the situation involving Real Madrid makes Gutierrez a major obstacle for Manchester United. But they have stepped up negotiations with the player’s representatives. So, it remains to be seen how the situation evolves.
