Manchester United have registered their interest in Leeds United’s midfield starlet Archie Gray.

The midfield is an area of much concern for United fans as it was the source of so many of the club’s problems last season.

The futures of Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat and Christian Eriksen seem likely to be away from Old Trafford and there is even the possibility that Scott McTominay could still move despite scoring 10 goals in all competitions last year.

United have been heavily linked to Manuel Ugarte in the previous week but Ineos are also keen to add even younger talent to United’s squad, specifically homegrown ones.

TEAMtalk report that “Manchester United are the latest big-name club to come calling for young Leeds United prospect Archie Gray” and “their interest has been registered alongside several other top clubs.”

The Red Devils would naturally face significant competition for the player as Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also all showing significant interest in the 18 year old.

“Gray is seen as a future England star and is being spoken about by most of the Premier League’s top six and some European giants.”

He is also seen as “one of the most exciting talents in England” and when you consider the quality of player the nation is producing at the moment, it is quite the compliment.

The outlet rather bizarrely claims that his affiliations with Leeds United would make a transfer to the red side of Manchester more problematic due to the massive rivalry between the two clubs, but it would hardly be the first time such a deal was struck, with the likes of Joe Jordan, Gordon McQueen, Rio Ferdinand, Eric Cantona, Alan Smith, Johnny Giles, Brian Greenhoff, Gordon Strachan, Lee Sharpe and Daniel James amongst the many stars who have crossed the Pennines from one club to the other.

Meanwhile, the midfielder is said to be “extremely happy” at Leeds and he is “fulfilling his dream” by representing the Elland Road outfit.

“TEAMtalk can reveal that there is every possibility he stays as he will only leave for the right opportunity and wants to be sure his next step is the correct one.”

It was reported here back in January that United had identified Gray as a future midfield target but former Leeds striker Don Goodman has already warned the youngster about moving to Old Trafford due to his family history with the Whites.
