Successive wins over Arsenal and Man City is not enough to change Roy Keane’s mind

Roy Keane has said Michael Carrick should not be in contention to be named the next Manchester United manager.

And then just minutes after Mikel Merino looked to have rescued a point for Arsenal, Matheus Cunha’s sublime strike left many inside the Emirates Stadium stunned.

However, Keane does not believe wins over Man City and Arsenal in successive weeks warrants Carrick to be in the frame to get the Man Utd head coach role on a permanent basis.

In fact, the club legend has stressed that a “a bigger and better manager” must come through the doors at Old Trafford this summer.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said: "Two great performances but anyone can win two games.

"If United win every game until the end of the season, I still wouldn't be giving him the job. I still wouldn't be convinced he's the man for the job. Absolutely not.

"They need a bigger and better manager. The size of the club and the challenges they face over the next few years, you want a manager who you feel can get them winning league titles.

"Are we going to sit here and believe Michael Carrick can get United winning league titles? It's not enough for me. I don't believe he is the man to get them winning league titles."
