Manchester United are looking to strike a deadly blow to Arsenal in the transfer market ahead of the season opener between the two bitter rivals at Old Trafford this Sunday.

Focus on attack

The Red Devils have prioritised an overhaul of Ruben Amorim’s misfiring forward line after the club’s worst campaign in the Premier League era last season.

United scored a paltry 44 league goals with only three sides scoring less – Everton and three relegated sides, Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton.

No player in Amorim’s squad reached double figures in the league while the senior striking partnership of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined for just seven goals.

The decision was made that the existing forwards were not up to scratch and new recruits would be targeted this summer to improve the team’s attacking threat.

Consequently, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all been signed for a combined cost in excess of £200 million, beating out Premier League rivals in the race for each player.

Fans are excitedly awaiting each new forward’s debut in the grudge match against Arsenal tomorrow. All three are expected to become key members of Amorim’s starting eleven with players like Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho likely to leave Old Trafford as a result.

But United appear to show no signs of slowing down in their overhaul of the Portuguese coach’s front line.

The Red Devils are reported to be keeping tabs on further options to strengthen the attack with Caught Offside revealing the club are “closely following” PSG winger Kang-In Lee.

Behind Arsenal in the race

Lee, 24, has been “linked with a move away” from the French capital in recent months, according to the report, despite being “highly rated by PSG manager, Luis Enrique”.

United are said to be joined in the hunt for the South Korea international by Arsenal and Serie A champions Napoli with Lee’s recent performance against Tottenham Hotspur in the European Super Cup having “attracted the attention of Europe’s leading clubs.”

United hold a long-standing interest in Lee, who previously played for LaLiga side Valencia before his move to Paris.

However, Arsenal have moved ahead in the race for the versatile forward after “making direct contact” to agree a deal, narrowing United’s window of opportunity to strike.

INEOS will have to act fast to trump their rival and secure Lee’s signature – as they have done so three times already this summer.
