Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes is in contention to win the PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month award for March.
Fernandes was brilliant in March, scoring six goals in United’s five games across all competitions. Two of these goals were scored in the Premier League.
He converted a superb free-kick in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal and then got on the score sheet late on as the Red Devils beat Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.
Against Leicester, he also provided assists for Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho – two players who had each gone for more than 20 games without finding the back of the net.
Fernandes started March with an equaliser against Fulham in the FA Cup although it eventually didn’t count for too much as United were dumped out of the competition on penalties.
He grabbed a sensational hat-trick in the home leg of the Europa League last 16 against Real Sociedad, to send United to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.
The 30-year-old’s hat-trick in the win over Sociedad was just his second for United since he joined the club from Sporting CP five years ago.
Fernandes’ performances earned him United’s Player of the Month award and it has been reported that he has won the Premier League’s equivalent.
Now, the playmaker is in contention for another prestigious accolade – the PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month.
Other players vying for the award are Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest), Pervis Estupiñán (Brighton and Hove Albion), Nikola Milenkovic (Nottingham Forest) and Jan Paul van Hecke (Brighton and Hove Albion).
