Aaron Wan-Bissaka may opt to represent Democratic Republic of Congo at international level if he continues to be overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate.

The Manchester United defender is set to make a senior appearance for England despite representing the Three Lions at youth level.

Wan-Bissaka is behind the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Kyle Walker in Southgate’s right-back pecking order.

It is looking increasingly unlikely that he’ll be picked in England’s squad for the European Championships this summer, despite starting all but two of United’s Premier League fixtures this season.

As reported by The Athletic, Wan-Bissaka also qualifies for DR Congo and will consider switching nationalities if he continues to be ignored by Southgate.

England are set to play three World Cup qualifiers this month and the Athletic notes that Southgate’s squad is scheduled to be announced on March 18.

And if Wan-Bissaka is not selected, he could make a final decision on playing his international football for DR Congo.

Southgate is blessed for options at right-back in his England squad but none are as defensively sound as United’s defender.

The 23-year-old has two goals and two assists in the league this season but it is his attacking game that is making him a less desirable option for the Three Lions than other strong candidates.
