Trabzonspor prepared to ‘make sacrifices’ to sign Andre Onana

Manchester United’s chances of offloading goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer have been handed a considerable boost.

The Cameroonian shot stopper, now 30, is one of a number of players set to leave Old Trafford this summer. He spent last season on loan in Turkey with Trabzonspor after a dismal few years with the Red Devils.

He still has two years left to run on his deal, which expires in 2028, but the odds of a permanent departure this summer seem to be on the up, with Trabzonspor keen to make his move permanent.

United spent £43.8m to sign Onana from Inter Milan in 2023 and will hope to recoup some of that outlay when they sell him.

While their chances of turning a profit are all but nil, Trabzonspor will still have to shell out for the 53-time Cameroon international.

They remain interested in a deal, however, and president Ertugrul Dogan insists they have the budget to make it work.

Dogan said: "We speak with Onana every day. We won't have any financial difficulties."

He continued, adding that while Trabzonspor are interested in striking a deal with United, he will not hesitate to move for a cheaper alternative should negotiations fail.

He said: "We'll make the necessary sacrifices. I don't think we will experience any setbacks. But if we do, we will find another goalkeeper of the same quality."

His initial loan contained no buy option or obligation, per ESPN, but his wages have proven problematic in negotiations.

The situation could grow yet more complicated, too, with reports suggesting Onana’s salary will increase after the club qualified for the Champions League.
