Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has agreed to terms of a new contract at the Old Trafford club, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils academy graduate has extended his deal until June 2031 and an official announcement could take place this week.
Mainoo has rediscovered himself under Man United manager Michael Carrick after struggling for regular playing opportunities under Ruben Amorim.
The 21-year-old considered leaving the club last summer and during the January transfer window, but he has become a key player again and is expected to go to the World Cup with England in the summer.
He has now been rewarded with an improved deal and his performances in the 2-1 victory over Brentford last night reminded everyone of his quality.
Mainoo is one of the best players at Man United and losing him because of Amorim’s mismanagement would have been a huge blow.
Thankfully, the Red Devils always insisted on holding on to him despite his desire to leave, and both parties have now reached an agreement over a new and deserved deal.
Man United are also looking to hand Bruno Fernandes a new deal, and he keeps showing why he deserves it every game.
The Portuguese midfielder has a contract until June 2027, with an option to extend for a further year, but he is expected to get a new contract in the coming weeks or months.
The Red Devils are just two points away from sealing Champions League qualification for next season following last night’s victory, and both Mainoo and Fernandes have been crucial to their impressive Premier League campaign.
They are back in action on Sunday when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford, and they will fancy their chances of picking up all three points.
