Only a few months ago, Casemiro appeared destined to leave Manchester United at the end of his deal. His early-season struggles had sparked speculation that the club were planning a midfield overhaul, prioritising younger, more dynamic options. However, his recent resurgence under Amorim has been both remarkable and decisive.
Since Amorim’s arrival, Casemiro has re-established himself as a key figure in United’s structure. Of the 20 goals conceded by the team this season, only five have come when he’s been on the pitch. His reading of the game, leadership, and positional discipline have added stability to a side that had struggled for consistency.
Amorim, who marked his one-year anniversary in charge this week, has reportedly been impressed by the 33-year-old’s professionalism and tactical intelligence. Internal discussions suggest that United are no longer resigned to losing the five-time Champions League winner when his deal ends in 2026.

Casemiro remains one of Manchester United’s highest earners, with a weekly wage believed to exceed £300,000. That salary level could complicate any renewal talks, as the club continues its drive to bring the wage structure more in line with its new sporting strategy under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS influence.
For a new contract to materialise, Casemiro would almost certainly need to accept a reduced deal, potentially similar to the model used in recent renewals for senior figures across Europe — a shorter term with performance-based incentives.
Amorim’s stance will be influential. If he continues to see Casemiro as integral to his plans, the club could explore an extension through 2027, ensuring the midfielder remains a presence in both the dressing room and the heart of midfield while also providing leadership to emerging talents like Kobbie Mainoo.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Casemiro’s experience has been pivotal in reinforcing standards around the squad. Teammates reportedly view him as a figure who bridges the gap between the dressing room’s younger generation and senior professionals.
He has also been instrumental in adapting United’s pressing structure under Amorim, offering tactical guidance during training sessions and acting as an informal mentor to younger midfielders. Those within Carrington note that his influence off the pitch has been as significant as his recent performances.
Manchester United’s long-term midfield planning still includes the search for younger reinforcements. However, Casemiro’s revival has altered the club’s immediate priorities. Rather than phasing him out, United could instead focus on balancing his experience with emerging players, allowing for a smoother transition.
While no final decision has been made, Amorim’s willingness to retain Casemiro and the Brazilian’s desire to continue at the highest level suggest an unexpected extension could be on the horizon. For a player once deemed expendable, this revival underlines his enduring value to Manchester United — both as a performer and as a leader.
