Ruben Amorim’s side travel to Spain for the first leg of their last-16 tie on Thursday night, with the Europa League representing the club’s last chance to salvage something from the season.
United sit 14th in the Premier League table and were knocked out of the FA Cup on Sunday after losing on penalties to Fulham at Old Trafford.
As is the case ahead of European fixtures, United held an open section of training at Carrington on Wednesday morning, and neither Maguire or Ugarte took part.
It is reported that the pair both picked up minor injuries against Fulham, with Ugarte replaced early in the second-half and Maguire going off at the end of normal time.
While the issues are not believed to be serious, it is unlikely that either player will be involved against Sociedad on Thursday.
There was better news for Amorim as Toby Collyer took part in the training session, with the midfielder nearing a return to first-team action.
The 21-year-old started against Rangers and FCSB in the Europa League in January, but has missed recent matches with a muscle injury.
Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez all remain on the sidelines, and the likes of Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Mason Mount are longer-term absentees continuing their rehabilitation work away from the main group.
Teenager striker Chido Obi has impressed in cameos off the bench, but the 17-year-old has not been registered in United’s squad for the Europa League knockout stages and is therefore ineligible.
